Abstract
In this paper, fourteen terranes are divided in the corridor of Golmud to Ejin Qi Geotransect and its adjacent area, which belonged to four Plates: Yangtze-South China,North China-Qaidam, Tarim and Kazakstan-Junggar plates.Between them there were several oceanic basins of different slies.Since Middle Proterozoic a series of rifting, opening, collision and amalgamation events had happened on the above-mentioned plates. The main events include: the closing of the small Qilian oceanic basin in Early Paleozoic leading to the amalgamation of Qaidam-Qilian Block onto North China Plate; the closing of the Shibanjing-Xiaohuangshan oceanic basin resulting in the collision of the Tarim plate with Kasakhstan-Junggar Plate; and the closing of the Altyn and Paleo-Asian oceanic basins in Late Paleozoic leading to the formation of the Paleo-Eurasian continental block. In Mesozoic Cenozolc, the important events in this area were the activities of Tethys ocean on south side and the collisions of Qiangtang, Gangdesi terranes and the Indian plate, which produced a series of foreland and intermontane basins and intracontinental tectonics,as well as the whole uplifting of Qinghai-Tibet plateau. All of these events were honestly recorded in the sediments of terranes.
