Abstract

[Objective] The research aimed to explore the physiological mechanism of the leaf color variation in Chlorophytum comosum.[Method] The contents of photosynthetic pigments and the intermediate products which were related to the chlorophyll synthesis pathway were analyzed using the plants of C.comosum var.marginata and C.comosum var.mediopictum as materials.[Result] Compared with the normal green parts, the contents of chlorophyll a,b and carotenoid decreased gradually in the etiolation parts, especially the contents of chlorophyll a.And in the etiolation parts, the accumulation of Mg-protoporphyrin Ⅸ and Pchlide a decreased obviously, while the others of intermediate products increased in C.comosum,var.marginata or less differences in C.comosum,var.mediopictum.[Conclusion] The obvious decrease of chlorophyll a might directly result in the etiolation, and the reduction of chlorophyll synthesis was due to a metabolic block from coproporphyrinogen Ⅲ to Mg-protoporphyrin Ⅸ synthesis pathway.
