Abstract
According to the practice production, the mesh of shrimp trawl was too small which resulted in high rates of commercial juvenile fish and shrimp in catch. A series of tests were conducted to improve the otter shrimp trawls operating in Fujian Sea area during 2002-2003. Cod-ends were set on both top and bottom at the back of the gear. The bottom one with a rigid bar device installed in its entrance was to separate the shrimp from fish, and the top one with enlarged meshes was to release the commercial juvenile fish and shrimp. The result of the tests showed a good effect. The article put special stress on characteristics of fishing gear and fishing method after improvement.
