A review of the progress and direction of land consolidation research

Land consolidation was offi cially proposed and implemented in China during the late 1990 s. Land consolidation has played an important role in improving agricultural production capacity, speeding up the modernization of agriculture, promoting industrialization and urbanization, and realizing the integrated development of both urban and rural areas during the last decade. Given the overall progress of land consolidation, it has received more attention from experts and scholars. This paper summarizes recent research progress and prospect in both domestic and overseas settings of land consolidation, including research on: land consolidation models, land consolidation planning, land consolidation evaluation, public participation in land consolidation, technologies related to land consolidation, and the ecological and environmental impacts of land consolidation. Currently, land consolidation is facing severe challenges. Given this reality, proposals for further research on land consolidation are put forward, including strengthening research on: the land property rights of land consolidation, the construction of ecological communities in land consolidation, the institutional guarantee system of land consolidation, and supporting technology in land consolidation.
