Abstract
The tetrahydropterin dependent aromatic amino acid hydroxylase( AAAH) is a family that include phenylalanine hydroxylase, tyrosine hydroxylase and tryptophan hydroxylase 1 or 2,which can catalyze hydroxylation reaction of aromatic amino acid at the presence of tetrahydropterin, iron and oxygen. Many diseases such as phenylketonuria,Parkinson's disease, nervous disease and others are associated with AAAH. In this article, the progress of AAAH protein structure, functional domain, selectivity of substrate and catalytic mechanism are reviewed.
