Abstract

In this study, the expression of IGF-I and MSTN mRNA in breast and leg muscle was analyzed in 70 days old Taihu goose and Wanxi goose with Multiplex Competitive Fluorescent-PCR method, and the correlations between mRNA levels and carcass traits were analyzed to study the effects of mRNA levels on muscle growth. The result showed that IGF-I mRNA level of breast muscle in Taihu goose was significantly higher than that in Wanxi goose,MSTN mRNA level of leg muscle in Taihu goose was significantly higher than that in Wanxi goose. There was no significant difference in breast muscle MSTN level and leg muscle IGF-I mRNA level between the two breeds. In the same breed, IGF-I mRNA level of leg muscle in male goose was significantly higher than that in female goose, and MSTN mRNA level of leg muscle was significantly higher than that in breast muscle. There was no difference in IGF- I mRNA level between viable tissues. There was positive correlation between IGF-I mRNA and MSTN mRNA level both in breast muscle and leg muscle, and there was negative correlation between IGF- I mRNA level of breast muscle and leg muscle rate. In Wanxi goose, MSTN mRNA level of leg muscle was negatively associated with body weight and leg muscle weight.
