Abstract
Objective:To study the intima media thickness of carotid artery in cerebral infarction by color doppler ultrasound, and to investigate the risk factors of the carotid artery atherosclerosis and the association of carotid atherosclerosis with cerebral infarction. Methods:Using the colour Doppler ultrasonography technique, the carotid intimal medial thickness, position of plaques were measured at both the infarction and infarction-flee sides in 128 patients with cerebral stroke, and compared with 96 cases in the controlled group. Results:patients with cerebral infarction showed presence of carotid arteriosclerosis, the incidence was significant higher than control group.By analysis,we found carotid plaque increased progressively with age(P0.01).It was correlated to high blood pressure.dia-betes and increased fibrinogen level(P0.05).No relationship was found between plaque and and blood lipid levels. There was no significant difference betwen plaque group and no plaque group in smoking, drinking and gender. the incidence of carotid plaque in CI group was significantly higher than that in the contro1.Conclusion:Stroke occurence is closely corelated to the carotid arteriosclerotic,Using the colour Doppler ultrasonography technique to find carotid arteriosclerosis has important significance to avoid and predict stroke events.Increased CA IMT and plaque are important risk factors of CI and many factors are contributed to them.
