Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between temporal lobe epilepsy and hippocampal sclerosis.Methods The measures of hippocampus in 40 cases with temporal lobe epilepsy were performed by computers.The magnetic resonance images were analyzed by BIOCOM2000 software,and the volume of hippocampus was calculated.Asymmetry index was used to indicate the level of hippocampal atrophy.Results There were 70% patients with hippocampal atrophy and 30% patients without it,agreed with the results of electroencephalogram.The sensitivity is 93% and the specificity is 86%.Conclusion Hippocampal sclerosis was related to temporal lobe epilepsy, and magnetic resonance imaging was the first choice method to detect hippocampal sclerosis.
