Abstract

The paper gives a brief introduction of the backgrounds of American naturalism. It puts great emphasis on the comparison between American naturalism and critical realism in the aspects of philosophical views, writing styles and attitudes towards life to come to a conclusion that American naturalism remodes realism and it is an extreme form of realism.
