Abstract

This study analyzed four cost saving models after treatment with Lamivudine for one year by utilizing annual total cost and direct medical cost of chronic hepatitis B and liver cirrhotics in Shanghai, and the rate of seroconversion and liver cirrhosis prognosis in clinic research of NUCB3009, NUCB 3010, NUCA 3010 produced by GlaxoWellcome company. The result showed that in model I, all chronic hepatitis B patients treated with Lamivudine for one year, the medical cost saved from one patient can counteract 46.3 percent of the annual Lamivudine treatment cost; in model II, chronic hepatitis B patients with ALT level double higher than normal value treated with Lamivudine, the medical cost saved from one patient can counteract 90.8 percent of the annual Lamivudine total cost; in model III, chronic hepatitis B patients with ALT level double higher than normal value treated with Lamivudine, the medical cost saved from one patient can counteract 62.2 percent of the annual Lamivudine direct medical cost; in model Ⅳ, chronic hepatitis B patients with ALT level double higher than normal value in Asia treated with Lamivudine, besides the annual Lamivudine treatment cost, each patient can net save medical cost of 426.9 yuan. In conclusion, the trend of cost saving can be visible after one year treatment of chronic hepatitis B with Lamivudine.
