Abstract

The total content and the available content of heavy metals(Cu,Pb,Zn,Cr,Ni,Cd,As and Hg) in soils from main cities' suburbs of the Pearl River delta were analyzed.Hg has the highest pollution index(8\^18) with the lowest valid coefficient.Cd and Zn are higher in pollution index(3\^44 and 3\^36,respectively) and Cd has the highest valid coefficent.Topsoils show higher heavy metal content than subsoils.There is a good positive correlation between available content and total content.
