Abstract

The structure of Baiyun Sag in the deep-water area of Pearl River Mouth Basin was studied by applying the new long-cable seismic data in combination with the geology, logging and geochemistry data. Baiyun Sag was composed of a series of half-grabens controlled by the faults in the Wenchang Age of Eocene Epoch, and the sediment of Wenchang Formation was controlled by faults obviously in this period. In the Late Eocene Epoch, Baiyun Sag persisted subsiding and deposited the thick strata of the Oligocene-Miocene, which covered the early structure of half-grabens. In the rift period, the half-grabens controlled the distribution of lacustrine source rocks. Further analysis to half-grabens is favorable to reveal the distribution of source rocks in Wenchang Formation and improve the petroleum exploration in this area.
