Abstract

By adding super absorbing polymer(SAP) into the concrete with low water-binder ratio as an internal curing agent, and by adding additional curing water to the concrete, the autogenous shrinkage of the concrete can be significantly reduced. The effects of the addition of SAP on the properties of the concrete with water-binder ratio 0.3 are investigated. The results show that the addition of SAP leads to the decrease of the compressive and tensile strength and the electrical resistivity. The water retention for the concrete incorporation SAP is higher compared to the concrete without SAP.The addition of SAP into the concrete with low water-binder ratio can remarkably reduce the autogenous shrinkage, and it can also decrease the early dry shrinkage of concrete.
