Chinese Education in the Russian Empire before 1917

Chinese language teaching in Russia has a unique development track.In a period of about 200 years from the early eighteenth to the early twentieth century,Chinese language teaching in Russia was a useful attempt in many aspects such as teaching,practice and scientific research.The initial small-scale Manchu and Chinese classes with poor conditions gradually developed into the Chinese education base as the center of the Oriental Languages Department of St.Petersburg University and the Oriental Institute in Vladivostok.The development of Chinese education in Russia laid a solid foundation for the formation and the development of Russian Sinology.
