Abstract

The wear properties of high vanadium high-speed steel were tested under dry sliding condition using MM-200 test machine and the failure behavior and wear mechanisms of the steel were analyzed by SEM.The results show that the wear behavior of the steel depends on the hardness and microstructure. With carbon content below 2.58%,the wear resistance depends on the hardness, and the higher the hardness, the better the wear resistance;with carbon content above 2.58%, the wear resistance depends on the microstructure, the smaller the carbides and the more uniformly distributed the carbides, the better the wear resistance. The wear mechanism of high vanadium high-speed steel is combined micro-cutting and fatigue wear with carbide particle breaking and peeling off under stress.
