Abstract

Objective: To analysis the clinical features of pheochromocytoma retrospectively. Methods: The clinical features were retrospectively analysised in 149 patients with pheochromocytoma confirmed by pathology in Chinese PLA General Hospital from 1975 to 2005.Results: Among these patients,28.9% patients were adrenal incidentoma confirmed by pathology after operation.73% showed one of the triad symptoms(headache, palpitation and sweating),57% patients presented unstable or uncontrollable hypertension. And 38.9% patients reported impaired glucose regulation. The positive rate of clinical biochemistry was 79.3%,and the diagnostic sensitivity of B-ultrasonography,CT or MR I and131I-MIBG were 94.5%,97.2%,90.0% respectively. Conclusion: The diagnosis of pheochromocytoma should rely on the clinical evidence including symptoms and signs, biochemistry and immaging study, sometimes functional test such as rigitine test, glucagons stimulation test is helpful for diagnosis before operation. For all the patients diagnosed as pheochromocytoma should be followed up after operation,to discover the recurrence and/or the metastasis of malignant pheochromocytoma.
