Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of treatment of children's stress hyperglycemia with glucose-insulin-potassium.Methods Thirty children with stress hyperglycemia were randomly divided into two groups,15 cases in each group.Patients in the treated group were admi-nistered with glucose-insulin-potassium,whereas those in the control group, glucose were transfused at the speed 4 mg/(kg·min).Blood glucose concentrations before and after treatment were measured and analyzed, and the patients' illness conditions evaluated by using simplified pediatric critical illness scoring system.Transformation of the conditions from danger to safety was analyzed on the second day after admission to hospital. Results The blood glucose levels before and 12 h,the second day,the third day after treatment were(20.7±5.02)mmol/L,(11.98±3.13)mmol/L,(7.55±1.94)mmol/L,(5.12±1.04)mmol/L in the treated group,respectively,and(19.16±4.49)mmol/L,(14.89±3.42)mmol/L,(10.7±2.63)mmol/L,(5.95±1.33)mmol/L in the control group, respectively. The glucose concentrations decreased sooner in the treated group than that in the control group. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant 12 h and the second day after treatment(Pa0.01).At the second day, tweleve out of 15 patients in the treated group were transformed from danger to safety, with only 6 out of 15 in the control group. The difference was statistically significant(P0.05),with transformation in the treated group compared with that in the control group. Conclusion Glucose-insulin-potassium treatment is an effective therapy for patients with stress hyperglycemia in child
