Abstract
Aim To investigate the clinical characteristic and antimicrobial resistance in E. Coli urinary tract infection patients. Methods Resistance of pathogens in 76 hospitalized and policlinic patients complicated E. Coli urinary tract infection from 1998 to 2001 were analyzed. Results E. Coli had the higher resistance rate of 83~87% for penicillin, 72% for SMZ/TMP, 54% for gentamycin. Resistance rate of E. Coli to cephalosporins (30%) and amikacin (14%) was significantly lower than that to gentamycin. Conclusions E. Coli is still the major pathogen in complicated urinary tract infection, antimicrobial therapy should be initiated under the guidance of anti-microbial sensitivity test if possible.
