Abstract

5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy is a new treatment in dermatology. The mechanism of the treatment is that the photosensitizer 5-aminolevulinic acid accumulates in the target tissue and absorbs light of a certain wavelength, which will directly lead to cell and tissue damage. At present, 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy in dermatology is well documented for the treatment of neoplastic dermatoses, infl ammatory dermatoses, and cosmetic dermatology. So far the proven advantages of 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic include good efficacy and safety, well tolerance and excellent cosmetic outcome. The indications of 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy will be applied widely in future.
