Relationship between coping style and psychological status in patients with cancer

Abstract

Objective:To explore the relationship between coping style and psychological status in patients with cancer.Method: Sixty patients with cancer and thirty healthy controls were administered with Trait Coping Style Questionnaire(TCSQ),Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90),self-rating depression scale(SDS) and self-rating anxiety scale(SAS).Results: The patient had higher scores on negative coping style than the control(P0.01),higher scores on SCL-90, distinctly in somatization,anxiety,depression,and psycho-disposition than the control,and higher scores on SAS and SDS than the control(P0.05?-?0.01).There were negative correlations between positive coping style and psychological status(P0.05?-?0.005),but positive correlations between negative coping style and psychological status((P)0.05?-?0.005).Conclusion: The cancer patients have many psychologic problems,in which coping styles are the major factors.
