Malignant Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors:a Clinical Analysis of 36 Cases

Abstract

Objective:To study the clinical manifestation and pathologic characteristics of gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GIST).Methods:The clinical and pathological data in 36 caeses of malignant GIST admitted between 1999 and 2004 were analyzed retrospectively.Results:The common clinical manifestations were abdominal pain and digestive tract bleeding.The tumors were commonly located in the small intestine and stomach.All cases were pathologically diagnosed as malignant tumors after operation.14 cases recurred after operation and 4 cases died.Conclusion:Tumor size,location,mitosis and immunohistochemical data are important indexes for determining whether it is malignant or benign.In order to improve the prognosis,it is of great importance to diagnose and treat GIST early and properly.
