On the Difference Between Han Yu and Liu Zongyuan in Their Artistic Practices

Han Yu and Liu Zongyuan had their individual features though they were both the leaders of Restoration Movement for literature. This thesis is basically an expounding of their stylistic differences from aspects like content, restoration ideology, and some important matter like the combination mode between wen and dao, with their argumentation articles as the object. The reason to bring about such difference is also analyzed. It is found that Han Yu, when dealing with some matters of importance, tended to assume the direct approach, which was influenced by the orthodox ideas, while Liu pursued a reasonable and logical style, his rationality being never rivaled by Han Yu.
