Abstract

Abstract : SAA International, under contract to Southern Ballistics, Inc., undertook a development project to greatly improve the performance of armor piercing ammunition fired from the .50 caliber M2 heavy barrel machinegun. This brief presentation will highlight the projectile design approach, the resulting armor penetration performance, and the significant contribution of Bofors' double-base, single perforation propellant, which permitted us to realize our muzzle velocity objectives, within the safe pressure limits of the weapon.
