Abstract

Objective:To investigate the proliferative and differentiative effect of total flavonoids of Herba epimedii (HEF)on osteoblast like cells. Methods:Osteoblast like cell OS 732 cells were used as an in vitro model.Such methods as cell counting,MTT assay,Alkaline phosphatase(ALP)staining and examination of ALP levels were used. Results:Three days after HEF was added, the numbers of cells were more than that of the control group. Six days after ALN was added, the numbers of cells were still more than that of the control group. The determinations of MTT had similar results.Four days after HEF was added, the cells became larger and more regular. However, cells in the control group became smaller and more irregular. The result of ALP staining and the investigation of ALP levels showed that the ALP levels in HEF groups were significantly higher than that of the control group. Conclusion:HEF possesses the proliferative and differentiative effect on osteoblast like cell OS 732 with dose dependent manner.
