Abstract

Objective To determine the level of intraarticular experssion of interleukin-7(IL-7) in patients with osteoarthritis(OA),analyze the relationship with matrix metalloproteinases-13(MMP-13) and investigate the effect of IL-7.Methods IL-7 and MMP-13 levels were measured in synovial fluid obtained from patients with OA and patients with knee trauma.Immunohistologic analysis was used to assess the expression of IL-7 and MMP-13 in synovial tissue from patients with OA.Results IL-7 and MMP-13 levels were increased in synovial fluid from patients with OA compared with the levels in synovial fluid from patients with knee trauma.Synoviocytes of joint lining tissue expressed abundant IL-7 and MMP-13.Conclusion The abundant intraarticular expression of IL-7 and a positive correlation with MMP-13 are likely to IL-7 stimulating MMP-13 expression by synovial cell in OA.
