Abstract
The settlement calculation and stability guarantee under traffic load are important parts of building low embankment highway, and the scientific calculation method is its prerequisite and basis. The cumulative settlement of soft soil subgrade is calculated by using the Chai-Miura model. Results show that the cumulative settlement is large of low embankment in soft soil foundation caused by repeated low traffic load, and deformation decays with depth rapidly. When the depth is more than 8m,the deformation is much smaller compared with the surface deformation, and the settlement rate increases nonlinearly with time.Cumulative settlement is more than 90 percents of total settlement, which develops rapidly in initial stage, and greater than the consolidation settlement.
