Abstract

Objective To investigate visual outcomes for non_diabetic and non_traumatic vitreous haemorrhage treated with a pars plana vitrectomy. Methods All the cases(46) of non_diabetic and non_traumatic vitreous haemorrhage treated with a pars plana vitrectomy were studied.A comparative analysis was made of visual acuities and complications postoperatively. Results Postoperatively, visual acuity improved in 32 eyes who underwent vitrectomy in 1 month.Visual acuity improved in 2 eyes, remained unchanged in 8 eyes and visual acuity worse in 3 eyes who underwent vitrectomy over 1 month. The complications included haemorrhage, retinal tear in the operation and increased intraocular pressure postoperatively.Retinal tear and retinal detachment happened in patients who underwent vitrectomy over 1 month. Conclusion The pars plana vitrectomy is an effective treatment for nondiabetic spontaneous vitreous hemorrhage and the complications are less. With respect to retinal tears, the vitrectomy should be done at once.
