Therapeutic Observation on Blood-letting at Twelve Hand Jing-well Points for Post-stroke Depression

Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of blood-letting at twelve Hand Jing-well points in treating post-stroke depression(PSD).Method Sixty PSD patients were randomized into a treatment group,an acupuncture group,and a Western medication group,20 each.The three groups all received Paroxetine.In addition,the acupuncture group was given acupuncture treatment,and the treatment group was given acupuncture plus blood-letting at twelve hand Jing-well points.They were evaluated by using Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression(HAMD) and Barthel Index(BI) before and after treatment.Result After 4-week treatment,the total effective rate was 100.0% in the treatment group,versus 80.0% in the acupuncture group and 75.0% in the Western medication group.The total effective rate of the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the acupuncture group and the Western medication group(P0.05,P0.01);after treatment,the improvements of HAMD and BI in the treatment group were better than that in the acupuncture group(P0.05);the improvement of HAMD in the treatment group was significantly better than that in the Western medication group(P0.01),and the improvement of BI in the treatment group was also markedly better than that in the Western medication group(P0.05).Conclusion Blood-letting at twelve hand Jing-well points can achieve a satisfactory therapeutic effect in treating PSD.
