Abstract

This paper selected Tonghua city as test area, using Arc/Info software to generate contour lines by using original SRTM data and produce different resolution DEM by interpolation, and extracting the height difference, slope, aspect, terrain shadow, and in accordance with D8 algorithm, extracting basin information. The results shows there are little differences in total change of different resolution DEM in describing the topography, but the high-resolution DEM can better reflect subtle changes in terrain; In aspect of hydrological simulation, basin network number, gully density and the resolution of DEM with a positive relationship, but there will be a phenomenon of generating pseudo-valley when extracting basin network because of information redundancy of high-resolution DEM.
