Abstract
In this paper, under the action of an acid catalyst, the oligomers are synthesized using medium-temperature coal tar pitch with benzaldehyde as a cross-linking agent, and then mesophase pitch is prepared. The effect of reaction temperature on the structure and properties of oligomers and mesophase pitch is raised. The results indicate that when reaction temperature is increased, the yield, the softening point, the carbon yield and the density of oligomers are also improved; when reaction temperature is moderate, it is prone to get outstanding mesophase pitch with developed optical anisotropy and lower softening point.
