Abstract

The is a term conveying strong traces of hegemonic ideology in post-colonialism. Becoming other usually refers to process in which one is expelled, suppressed, neglected, discriminated, and objectified by mainstream forces. This paper starts with notion of the and interprets Zhang Chengzhi, arguing for otherness of author’s identity and other-becoming tendency in process of writing. Zhang Chengzhi was a man of double identity. He was fully conscious of dominating influence exerted by mainstream Han Chinese culture on minorities’ Chinese culture. Hence, in his writing, Zhang Chengzhi chose to go close to minorities’ Chinese culture that had become other and marginalized, and fulfilled his objectives of speaking for other in his area choices and depiction of figures. Consequently, civilizations almost forgotten are rediscovered. In sum, Zhang Chengzhi helps rescue civilization that has been other; what is more important, on other hand, civilization that has become other makes Zhang Chengzhi accomplished as a writer.
