The Creation of Experimental Varicocele Model in Rats and Its Effect on the Testis

Objective:To study the effect of experimental varicocele on the testis in rats and investigate the mechanism of the infertility resulting from varicocele.Methods:A varicocele model was created by partial ligation of the left renal vein in rats.Eight weeks after creation of the varicocele,the histology of the testis was studied and the statidtical analysis were made.Results:An experimental varicocele model was successfully created by partially ligating the renal vein in rats.The main pathological change in the testis of the model rats were bilateral.The statistical analysis showed that the weight of the testis of the two sides were significantly reduced,the interstitial areas were sugnented and abnormal Leydig cell increased.Conclusion:Experimental left varicocele has severe bilateral damaging effects on the testis and abnormal Leydig cell increased which may be the most important reason for infertility resulting from varicocele.
