Abstract
The effect of laser gas nitriding parameters and laser beam distributing on the surface hardness of laser nitrided layer was studied through analysing the microstructure and the test data of the hardness. The application of strip integral mirror could change the laser beam, thus the efficiency of laser gas nitriding and the average surface hardness could be enhanced. The main reason of the increased surface hardness can be contributed to the fabricated TiN nitrided layers, and the gas nitriding process that can facilitate the generation of TiN can increase the surface hardness of commercially pure titanium TA2.
