Abstract

Objective To explore the feasibility and accuracy of real-time three-dimensional echocardiography(RT-3DE) for quantitative evaluation of left ventricular function in patients with heart failure.Methods Thirty-six patients with heart failure in(heart failure group) and thirty-three healthy volunteers(normal group) were evaluated for left ventricular systolic function using M-mode echocardiography(ME),two-dimensional echocardiography(2DE) and RT-3DE.Results The left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) obtained by ME and those of obtained by 2DE and RT-3DE were statistics significantly different in heart failure group(P0.01);LVEDV and LVESV were markedly higher in heart failure group than normal group LVEDV,LVESV,LVEF was markedly lower in heart failure group than normal group LVEF(P0.01).Conclusion RT-3DE is a novel noninvasive and reliable method to quantitatively evaluate left ventricular volume and its systolic function of heart failure patients.
