Abstract

In dry-friction reciprocating sliding motion, the friction and wear behavior of AZ91D magnesium alloy fabricated with conventional casting and thixoforming casting, which is counterposed against GCr15 steel, were studied. The result shows that the average friction coefficients of ThF samples and CC samples fall into the range of 0.26-0.36,but the former is slightly smaller than the latter. For the AZ91D magnesium alloy, the wear mechanism was characterized as oxidation wear and abrasive wear under small normal load and at low sliding speed, and it was characterized as delamination wear and adhesion transfer onto the counterpart under very high normal load and at high sliding speed.
