Reflections on the Theoretical Resources of the Popular Culture in the West

Abstract

The theories on the popular culture brought up by the FrankfurtSchool, Benjamin andthe British-American Cultural School comprise the main theoretic resources of the popular culture in the West. These three schools are closely related to the study of China’s popular culture with some historical adaptability but have their own socio-cultural backgrounds. Thus, through an objective criticism of these theoretical resources, the study of popular culture in China should reconstruct its own theoretic discourse in the present context.
