Abstract

The relationship between software reliability and its cost is dialectic. Increasing the software reliability will decrease the maintenance cost and avoid any unnecessary waste. On the other hand, increasing the software reliability will cause an increase of developing cost, which will restrict the marketing and popularization of software. The software reliability assignment technology and the method to establish the optimal time to stop testing are discussed in detail in an effort to balance the software reliability and cost.
