Abstract

As one of the most important bilateral alliances in the current world, the US-Japan Alliance has always been an important tool for America since WW II for the implementation of its containment policies in the Northeast Asian regions. However, the asymmetrical alliance of the US and Japan has found itself in a “drifting” plight ever since the end of the cold war as a result of such issues as the evaporation of the two countries’ common enemy, the worsening of economic and trade conflicts between the two countries as well as the stepping up of the general national power of Japan. After the mid-1990s,the two countries sought to reinforce their alliance and managed to do so by readjusting it structurally. As a result of the interaction of the two countries’ policies, the readjustment represents the two countries’ goal of constructing a new security order in Northeast Asia that is based on hegemonic stability, centered on their military alliance and complemented with multilateral security needs.
