Abstract

The possibility of biodegradation of industrial wastewater containing high concentration of lipids was investigated by using high efficient SBR (sequencing batch bioreactor) process with low energy cost. The efficiency of the experimental pilot-up SBR biotreatments was studied by comparing the effects of pH, aeration time, the concentration of entrance wastewater on the degradation of lipids and COD,and then a treating technology for the continuous SBR processing on high lipid-containing wastewater was approached. The results of the SBR process under the improved optimal operation conditions lasting for one month continuously show that the high oily wastewater with both 500 mg/L of lipids and (1 600) mg/L of COD is biologically transformed to clear water by controlling the pH at 7.0 and the aeration time for 8 hours during a 12 h operation period, and that the removal rates of waste lipids and COD are over than 95% and 90%, respectively. The SBR biotreating system is stable and the quality of treated water can reach the requirements of national standards.
