Euphemism in English

Euphemism is usually regarded as a linguistic concept and it universally exists in different languages all over the world.Better communication can be achieved for people to accurately and appropriately use the conventional euphemism in daily life,which represents the civilization of individuals and society.Through analyzing semantic features of euphemism and its violation and following pragmatic principles,we can conclude that the usage of euphemism violates the cooperative principle while it follows the politeness principle in order to achieve a particular communicative goal in the course of specific communication.This can make the daily communication smoothly move on and protect the profit and dignity of the speaker and relevant people.
