Abstract

Objective:To investigate the role of BMP-2during early cementum repair following orthodontically induced root resorption. Methods:Sixty SD rats were randomly divided into force group(continuous force),control group(withdrawal force)and BMP-2group(withdrawal force and BMP-2periodontal ligament injection)after orthodontically induced root resorption occurred. After 0,5,10and 15days,the animals were sacrificed and maxillae were prepared for histological and histomorphometric analysis. Results:The formation of reparative cementum was earlier and more significant in BMP-2group than the force and control group(P0.01).Root resorption and the number of odontoclasts in BMP-2and control group were significantly less than those of force group(P0.01).Conclusion:These results indicate that the intraperitoneal application of BMP-2and release of the orthodontic force enhance the early orthodontically induced root resorption repair.
