Abstract
Objective: To investigate the expression of cyclooxyenase-2 (COX-2) and vascular endothelial cell growth factor (VEGF) in gastric carcinoma. Methods: The expression of COX-2, VEGF of gastric carcinoma was studied by immunohistochemical method from 45 by surgical resected specimens. Results: The positive rates of COX-2, VEGF in gastric carcinoma were significantly higher than those in paracancerous tissues. Both COX-2 and VEGF had a positive correlation with the depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and clinical stage (P0.05). VEGF expression in COX-2 positive tumor was significantly higher than that COX-2 negative tumor (P0.05). Conclusions: COX-2 and VEGF are positively correlated with the growth, invasion, metastasis and development of gastric carcinoma. COX-2 may induce the expression of VEGF.
