Abstract

Objective To investigate CT diagnosis and differential diagnosis of bronchogenic cysts of mediastinum. Methods CT findings of 20 cases with bronchogenic cyst pathologically proved were studied retrospectively. Results The lesions were found in paratracheal middle mediastinum in 14 cases (12 in the right side and 2 in the left side),5 cases in the bronchial paracarinal right middle mediastinum and 1 case in paraesophageal left posterior mediastinum. The cysts were round or ovale,12 were of cystic density,8 showed the density of soft tissue. On contrast-enhanced scans, the cystic content of mass was not enhanced in 5 ,of them,3 masses which were of the density of soft tissue on precontrast-enhanced scans appeared cystoid low density. Conclusion Bronchogenic cyst is predominantly found in paratracheal right middle mediastinum.CT scan is helpful in diagnosis and differentiating dingnosis of bronchogenic cysts, the accurate diagaosis for this cyst can be done combined with clinic data.
