Abstract

Objective To investigate and determine the distribution and endemic characters of Clonorchiasis in Guangxi. Methods The investigated locations were selected according to geographical and administrative divisions of Guangxi; the eggs of Clonorchis sinensis in residents faces were examined and counted by formalin ether sedimentation or water washing precipitation methods; the natural infection of intermediate hosts including freshwater snails and fishes was examined by slide and artificial digestive methods; the infection of reservoir animals were detected by dissection or faces examination. Results 112 444 residents from 135 locations belonging to 44 counties and cities were examined, the average infection rate of C. sinensis is 20.15%; higher infection rate was seen in elderly and male residents ( P 0.01); the first intermediate hosts are Bithynia fuchsiana, Parafossarulus striatulus, Alocinma longicornis and Bithynia robusta ; freshwater fishes of 4 families including 32 species such as Pseudorasbora parva and Rasborinus formosae Ohima are the second intermediate hosts; cats and dogs are the reservoir animal; the disease is infected by eating raw or uncooked fishes. Conclusion C. sinensis was prevalent widely in Guangxi; the infection is higher in southern parts of Guangxi, with character of trip distribution, while the infection in northern part of Guangxi being patch distribution.
