Abstract
In this paper describes a new species under a new genus. One new record belong-ing to the subfamily Maritrematinae is also reported from China. Probolocoryphe glandulosa (Coil, 1955) Yamaguti, 1971 Hosts: 1. Charadrius asiaticus Gould. 2. Charadrius alexandrinus dealbatus (Swinhoe). Location in host: Intestine. Locality: Zhanjiang, Guangdong and Beihai, Guangxi, China. In the specimens of P. glandulosa, the form of ovary and testes may be eithersmooth or somewhat irregular; the continuous ring of vitellaria may be complete orincomplete. The Maritrema uca Sarkisian, 1957, has been discussed and considered asthe larval stage of P. glandulosa by the author, and the former should be a synonymof the latter. Vitellatus gen. nov. Generic diagnosis: Microphallidae. Maritrematinae. Body small, nsually bean-shaped. Oral sucker subterminal. Prepharynx indistinct. Pharynx oval. Oesophagusmoderately long. Caeca terminating at level of acetabulum. Acetabulum much smal-ler than oral sucker. Testes symmetrical, behind ovary and left caeca. Male papillaand genital pore situated to the left of acetabulum and ovary to the right of aceta-bulum. Vitellaria consisting of compact large masses, marginal, posttesticular, about2--3 on each side, never reaching testicular level. Uterus confined to postcaecal area.Eggs numerous, small. Intestinal parasites of birds. The new genus Vitellatus appears to be more closely related to Mehraformis thanto other genera of the subfamily Maritrematinae, but the latter can be distinguishedfrom it by the vitellaria forming a bunch of several large follicles (about 7) overlap-ping testes on each side of hindbody. Vitellatus compactus sp. nov. Specific diagnosis: Body bean-shaped, 0.533--0.707 by 0.203--0.251 (0.665 by0.227)mm, with cuticular spines. Oral sucker subterminal, 0.073--0.073 by 0.073-0.080 (0.073 by 0.076)mm. Acetabulum 0.055--0.066 by 0.052-0.059 (0.062 by 0.055)mm, located at some distance behind midbody. Prepharynx very short or absent.Pharynx elliptical, 0.044--0.055 by 0.033--0.052 (0.047 by 0.039) mm. Oesophagus0.077--0.136 (0.110) mm in length. Caeca shert, extending to level of acetabulum. Testes somewhat triangular or irregular, symmetrically arranged in posteriorthird or fourth of body. Left testis 0.029--0.040 by 0.048--0.055 (0.037 by 0.052)mm,right testis 0.029--0.044 by 0.044--0.052 (0.039 by 0.046)mm. Cirrus pouch large,0.037--0.042 by 0.148--0.177 (0.040 by 0.166) mm, located between intestinal bifurca-tion and acetabulum, containing seminal vesicle, prostatic glands and ejaculatory duct.Male papilla protruded and genital pore opens to left of acetabulum, aspinose. Ovary somewhat irregular, measuring 0.037--0.059 by 0.066--0.089 (0.044 by 0.081)mm, located to the right side and almost at the same level of acetabulum. Vitellariaof 2--3 compact large masses on eaeh side, located linearly behind testes. Uterusconvoluted, confining to postcaecal area. Eggs numerous, 17--18 by 11μ. Host: Charadrius alexandrinus dealbatus(Swinhoe). Location in host: Intestine. Locality: Beihai, Guangxi, China. The type and paratype specimens are deposited in the Department of Parasitology,Zhongshan Medical College, Guangzhou, China.
