Research on the Name of "Conqueror of Western Chu"

With an intention of conquering China,Xiang Yu claimed himself conquerer of Westerm during the war between and Han.The historical records fail to make satisfactory explanations to the reason why Xiang Yu chose that name.The writer of this paper holds that of consists two meanings.The first meaning refers to the national title Western and the second his dignitary title Western indicates that Chu will take over the throne of Zhou and Qin and he called himself conqueror which demonstrates that Xiang Yu tried to conquer China by force and that he regarded himself as the master of China and the head of all vassals.
