Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of transcleral diode laser cyclophotocoagulation(TDLCP) in patients with refractory glaucoma. Methods Clincal data for all patients undergoing TDLCP for refractory glaucoma were received.Sixty six eyes of 66 patients were included.Number of medications, symptom,IOP,visual acuity and complications were observed before and after TDLCP.The period of follow up was one year. Results Preoperative and postoperative medications were 2.6(range,1~4)and 1.8(range,0~3).The decrease of medication after TDLCP had statistical significance( P 0.001).After operation, pain relieved in 55 patients, pain eased in 9 patients and 2 patients also had severe pain. Mean preoperative and postoperative IOP were(35.2±7.9) mmHg(1kPa=7.5 mmHg)and (19.5±6.2) mmHg,the average decrease in IOP was 15.4 mmHg ( P 0.001).Visual acuity at one year follow up visit, 10 eyes were improved, 40 eyes were stable and 16 eyes were decrease.Complications included inflammation in anterior chamber, hyphema, corneal edema,no light perception and phthisis bulbi. Conclusion TDLCP is an effective method for refractory glaucoma although it is associated with some complications such as hyphema and phthisis bulbi.
