Abstract

Objective: Our aim was to discuss the cause of laryngeal paralysis and the effect of arytenoid adduction. Methods: One hundred and twenty-seven patients with laryngeal paralysis were included in this study and accepted arytenoid adduction. Items, including age, sex, cause of laryngeal paralysis, maximum phonation time (MPT) before and after operation, additional treatment were examined. Results; There were 97 cases of postoperative paralysis (76.4% ) , 30 of nonoperative paralysis (23. 6% ) , and 81 of left side paralysis (63. 8% ). The average of MPT after operation prolonged 2. 6 times in men and 2.4 times in women. The percentage of additional intravocal injection after operation was 24. 7%. Conclusion: Postoperative paralysis is the major in patients with one-side laryngeal paralysis who received arytenoid adduction. The MPT of 94% cases were prologed after operation. So it can be concluded that arytenoid adduction might be one of the most effective treatments for one-side laryngeal paralysis.
