Distribution of bone mineral density in dual femur of human being

Abstract

Objective Research for dual femur bone mineral density(BMD) distribution of human being,in order to provide an evidence of how to choose the region of interest.Methods Dual femur BMD of subjects were detected by double-energy X-ray absorptiometry(GE Lunar Prodigy).Femur neck and the total hip were selected as region of interest.Results 301 subjects were detected,135 were male,whose BMD differences of left and right side of femur neck were(0.004±0.048)g/cm2,while those of the total hip were(0.006±0.042)g/cm2,not statistically significant.The differences between the higher density and the lower density of femur neck were(0.038±0.029)g/cm2[95%CI(0.034,0.043)],while those of the total hip were(0.035±0.025)g/cm2[95%CI(0.030,0.039)].166 were female,whose BMD differences of left and right side of femur neck were(0.006±0.040)g/cm2,while those of the total hip were(0.003±0.036)g/cm2,not statistically significant.The differences between the higher density and the lower density of femur neck were(0.032±0.025)g/cm2[95%CI(0.028,0.036)],while those of the total hip were(0.030±0.021)g/cm2[95%CI(0.027,0.033)].In both men and women,the BMD of the femur neck and the total hip have a positive correlation.Conclusion BMD distributions of human being of the region of interest in both left and right hip is almost conformity,but because of the ascendant side exist,detecting both side of hip is suggested and the lower side should be reported as the BMD.
