Abstract

The paper uses the sample of over 300 000 manufacturing enterprises and tests the effect of export trade in China on firms' productivity. The results show that export trade has negative influence on productivity in China, which may be due to too many processing trade enterprises, the inertia of export firms and high costs of domestic market access in China. Therefore, our enterprises should improve export quality, promote structure transfer and industrial upgrading, and maximally exert export's active effects.
